Below is the course ATR42/72-600 course duration and aspects taught throughout the type rating program.
The course will be complete over 28 days, which includes computer based training, seven days of ground school, ten days of sim and a final days training which consist of base training.
First Officer candidates who do not meet the hours requirement as outlined in 1.2 Pre Entry Requirements above shall attend an initial evaluation to assess if they have the sufficient level of knowledge, aptitude and CRM skills before entering the initial type rating course. Candidates who do not demonstrate sufficient knowledge, aptitude and CRM skills shall be enrolled onto an ELT (Entry Level Training) course prior to commencing the type rating.
It is important to note that post evaluation it may be decided that the candidate is not suitable to progress any further at this point.
The Initial Evaluation shall consist of an interview and simulator (minimum FNPT II device) assessment.

Normally the assessment will be conducted with two pilots to allow the Assessor to evaluate CRM skills and PF/PM standards. In the event that there is only one candidate, the assessor will sit in the left-hand seat and operate as a competent PM.
PF exercises to include take off, basic handling (rate 1 and steep turns), radial tracking and instrument approaches. Other exercises to possibly evaluate could include engine failure, single engine approach, visual approach.
